Dr. Narjes Rohani

Dr. Rohani studies how the developing brain's genome, epigenome, and gene expression give rise to neurodevelopmental and psychiatric conditions — combining computational biology and machine learning to trace when and where these disorders begin, and to find the DNA regulatory elements worth targeting therapeutically.

Research questions

01 · CURRENT

Neurodevelopmental & psychiatric genomics

In the Sanders and Rinaldi labs at Oxford, Dr. Rohani analyses gene expression, chromatin accessibility, and DNA sequencing from developing brain tissue to pinpoint when and how autism, schizophrenia, and related conditions emerge — and which enhancers could become therapeutic targets.

02 · EARLIER

Computational drug & disease prediction

Master's and early research built neural-network and matrix-factorization models for drug–drug interaction prediction and deep-clustering approaches to breast cancer molecular subtyping.

03 · PHD

AI for health data science education

During doctoral research in Precision Medicine at Edinburgh, AI and educational data mining were used to understand how students learn health data science and precision medicine, and how teaching could better support them.
